RACE TO THE TAPS

1st annual Sawmill 5K trail run and 2-mile Family Walk/Run

Saturday, September 9 at 11:00 AM

 

Join the inaugural year of Race To The Taps with Sawmill Brewing Company on September 9th for a beautiful 5K trail run or 2-mile family walk/run right in our own backyard.  Participants may register in advance for the chipped 5K trail run, which takes place on the Prairie Trails East and West loops, or, for the 2-mile family walk/run which will be on some surrounding neighborhood streets.  Be a part of this Merrill Community event no matter your age or mobility by joining us for the post-race party at The ‘Mill!  We will have food, music, kids’ area and prizes.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Sawmill Brewing Company is hosting their first ever 5K event!  But, since we know that not everyone loves running, there is going to be a 2-mile family walk/run portion too!  And, we are throwing a big party afterwards so that everyone in the family can participate in something throughout the day.

 

WHEN IS THIS FUN STUFF GOING DOWN?

September 9, 2017.  The 5K will begin at 11:00 AM with the 2-mile family walk/run starting shortly after.  The party will get started as racers finish (roughly 11:30 AM) and last all day long!

 

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?

Participation in the 5K trail run is $40.  Each racer will receive a race day t-shirt, a bag packed full of swag and fun giveaways, their bib number and chip for timing, a post-race meal, and a beer! (If you are under 21, we have some delicious craft sodas for you instead)

 

Participation in the 2-mile family walk/run is $20 for each person 12 and over.  Each registered 12 and up participant will receive a race day t-shirt, a bag packed full of swag and fun giveaways and a beverage of their choice (beer offered to those over 21).  Any kiddos under age 12 are welcome to participate as well, and, unlike most things these days… they are FREE!  All kids under 12 must still be registered, and must be participating with a registered adult.  However, they will still get a race day t-shirt!

WHERE IS THE COURSE?

The 5K runners will depart from Sawmill’s parking lot and run through the woods ½ mile to get to the Prairie Trails paths. Runners will circle the West loop, then the East loop, and return to Sawmill through the woods and finish on the North side of Sawmill’s property.  Here is a detailed map

The 2-mile family walk/run leaves Sawmill’s parking lot and heads West on 9th Street, North on Mill Street, East on Riverview Road, South on Hwy K/Center Ave, and ends back in Sawmill’s parking lot. Here is a detailed map

Family Run/Walk Course

HOW FAMILY FRIENDLY IS THIS 2-MILE FAMILY WALK/RUN?

The family course is very easily walkable and stroller friendly.  The entire route will be on pavement and does not have much of an incline throughout.

 

CAN I HAVE A STROLLER IN THE 5K?

No. This is a trail run with roots, rocks, gravel surfaces, and narrow passages. While it will be well maintained, it will not be stroller-friendly. If you would like to push a kiddo during the race, we encourage you to sign up for the 2-mile family walk/run, NOT the 5K.

 

AWARDS

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each age category during the post-race party.

 

WE ARE DOING A DONATION TOO!

Because we believe that not only being an active part of your community is important, but we also believe that giving back to your community is important… we are going to have a unique giving aspect to this event.  A portion of every registration will be donated back, and, we will be collecting additional donations the day of the race. Who are we donating to?  That is a great question!  And, we are going to let YOU decide.  When you come to packet pick up, each racer will get to cast their vote for the organization they want to receive the donation.  We will announce the winning recipient during the post-race party.

1) Lincoln County Respite Care

2) Northwoods Veterans Post

3) Food for Kids

4) Lincoln County Humane Society

 

WHAT’S THE AFTER PARTY ALL ABOUT?

We basically just want you to stick around and have a fun time that day.  So, we will have food trucks, live music, a kids’ area and more giveaways.  In late July, we will post a full line up of the day that will feature each of the musicians who will be playing, and all of the food trucks that will be available. If you have specific questions in the meantime, feel free to let us know. However, we promise there will be lots to do, eat, and drink… and a place for the kids to hang out too.

 

PARKING

We are working with Merrill High School to provide parking the day of the event.  Feel free to park there and either walk to Sawmill, or, wait at the designated shuttle stop if you would like to ride the shuttle from the high school over to the brewery. Please note that there will not be any parking on site at Sawmill the day of the event.

 

WHEN IS PACKET PICK UP?

All registered participants must pick up their packet, t-shirt and swag bag before the race begins. You will be able to pick up on Friday any time between 4:00 and 7:00 PM or Saturday morning between 8:00 and 10:30 AM at Sawmill Brewing Company.
